Don’t forget to activate you fourth quarter bonus category on your Chase Freedom card.  This quarter Walmart and other selected department stores will earn you 5 Ultimate Rewards points for every dollar you spend until December 31, 2017.

You have from now till the end of the third week of December to activate the bonus.  This is the first time Walmart is included in the bonus category to earn 5x the points for every dollar spent.  The bonus is only good on the first $1,500 of combined purchases for that credit card.

Remember, the Ultimate Rewards points earned from the Chase Freedom and Freedom Unlimited are non-transferable to airlines and hotels.  You must transfer them to another Ultimate Rewards earning credit card that charges an annual fee like the Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve, Ink Plus, or Ink Preferred.  The name on the accounts must be the same.  Then you can transfer them to airlines and hotel loyalty programs.

The “Walmart” category does not include merchants operating within or on Walmart premises such as merchants that sell fast food, beauty services, and gas stations that are not Walmart branded. The Department Store category does not include supercenters, discount stores or specialty stores (i.e. stores that sell primarily one line of products such as shoe stores, pet stores, electronics stores, clothing stores); if a merchant is not on the list, you will not earn bonus rewards. Department Store gift card purchases outside of the specific Department Store are excluded and will not earn bonus rewards.
